May 31, 2012 (Submission Deadline)  Roeper Review: Special Issue: Visual-Spatial Talent (Guest Editor: Dr. M. Layne Kalbfleisch):
Visual-spatial talent is a special dimension of human ability ascending in importance and well-supported in today's image-drenched, technology-driven environment. We invite articles on various aspects of this topic, from the biological bases for visual thinking, to its psychological dynamics, to the role it plays in dual exceptionalities, to instructional strategies or technological applications that can enhance its strength and utility. Empirical and conceptual articles will be considered.

About Spatial Cognition 2012:  Spatial Cognition 2012 (SC 2012) will bring together researchers working on spatial cognition, biological inspired systems, spatial learning, communication, robotics, and perception. The conference is single-track and the final program will be the result of a selective review process. The program will include invited talks as well as oral and poster presentations of refereed papers. The main conference will be preceded by one day of workshops and tutorials. Every effort is being made to keep conference expenses affordable, particularly for student attendees. All papers presented at the conference will be published by Springer.

September 1, 2012 (Submission Deadline) Call for short research reports on spatial thinking: Thomas F. Shipley and Dedre Gentner (Co-PI) will be guest editing a special issue of Cognitive Processing on "Spatial learning and reasoning processes". The special issue will have target articles on development of spatial thinking, assessing representations and processing of complex spatial relations, and the role of spatial thinking in science education. We are soliciting short research reports to be included in this volume. Reports should be less than 1000 words with no more than one figure. Submissions are due September 1, 2012. All reports will be reviewed in a single-step review process with an up or down decision by November 15, 2012, with final drafts due December 15, 2012. Please direct questions and send complete manuscripts to Thomas F. (Tim) Shipley at tshipley [at] temple [dot] edu.
